How it works

File-by-file archiving, never site-by-site: automatic from your rules (e.g. "untouched for 5 years"), or on demand.

Copy

The file is copied from SharePoint to an Azure blob container dedicated to your organization, at the Cold tier, GRS-replicated.

Verification

The copy is read back from Azure and its SHA-256 fingerprint compared. Nothing is removed from SharePoint without that proof.

Shortcut

A clickable marker file stays in the SharePoint folder: it says where the content lives and links to the portal.

Restore

From the portal, every file restores to its current location, even if the folder was moved or renamed.

Prices in Canadian dollars, all-inclusive: the platform and GRS-replicated storage in Canadian regions are covered. Rates are derived from Microsoft's public list prices and may be revised if Microsoft changes theirs.

Cold tier: 90-day minimum retention per object, read fees on retrieval. A 128 KiB minimum per object applies; our analyses compute it for your estate before any decision.

Microsoft 365 Archive: about $0.07 CAD per GB per month, inactive sites only. Extra SharePoint storage: about $0.27 CAD per GB per month.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a minimum retention period on Azure?
Yes. The Cold tier has a 90-day minimum retention per object. Deleting or retrieving a file before that window incurs early-deletion fees; our archiving rules target dormant files precisely to avoid those cases.
Are my archives stored in more than one place?
Yes. Storage uses Azure GRS redundancy: every file is replicated across two separate Canadian data centers. On top of that, SHA-256 validation runs at archiving time plus automatic nightly integrity checks.
How does the pricing work?
A single all-inclusive monthly price: the platform, GRS-replicated storage and the restore portal are all covered by the per-gigabyte rate. Setup happens once: a fixed 5-hour package at the project rate, regardless of size, which includes the initial archiving strategy. More detailed, personalized guidance beyond that is billed hourly. No restore fee. Billing arrangements are agreed with you at quote time.
What if I only archive once?
That is a common case and fully supported. The monthly price covers keeping your archived data, not a subscription to the service: no term commitment, and no fixed monthly fee on top of the per-gigabyte rate. Only the initial setup is billed, once. Automation rules are available if you want them, never required.
Is there a minimum volume?
No, there is no minimum volume required. Minimum billing is however $70 per month.
Can I use storage other than Azure?
The overall solution and its bulk pricing were designed around Azure, but S3-compatible storage (Backblaze, Wasabi…) is also possible as a custom offer. Talk to us.
Can I recover my files myself?
Yes. The Hilo Archive portal restores each file to its current location, even if the folder was moved or renamed. The shortcut left in SharePoint also links straight to the archived content.
Can Hilo help me recover?
Yes, at no charge on our side: only retrieval fees (reads and network egress) apply (see the transparency note in the simulator).
Is the offer competitive?
